I am a 28 year old Alaskan. I have lived here my entire life and feel privileged to have grown up in a state that is so very different than the rest of the U.S. To an extent, we are our own little world up here since we are quite a ways from the ‘Lower 48’ as we call them. We have sort of our own micro economy and our outlook on life is a bit different than elsewhere. We have the opportunity to see mother nature at her rawest while still taking advantage of the luxuries of modern life.

I live here with my husband of almost two years and our pets, a chocolate lab and two cats. They are my world and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. We have a lot of family up here so on any given weekend, we can be found hanging out with them and enjoying life to its fullest. Whether it be a barbeque in someone’s back yard or taking a trip North or South of town to get some fishing and camping in.

Here lately I have been trying to find a creative outlet as my office job doesn’t really present much for me in that direction. In the past I have tried cross stitching, latch hooking, dabbled a tiny bit in stained glass, stamping and making my own cards. A few years ago my husband bought me a Nikon camera just so that I had one with me whenever I needed it. I have always been the type to take pictures of anything and everything even if they don’t turn out great or have much complexity to them. Since I’ve had the camera, I find myself being inspired by things I see here in the city or out in the wild.

I don’t have any formal training, I just take pictures of what I like. Sometimes it comes across as I wanted it to, sometimes not so much. I take a lot of pictures and the majority of them don’t make the cut. I am very picky about what I post on DA, choosing only the ones that I feel really capture how I felt looking at whatever it was at the time of the picture. I am hoping that by trial and error, I can hone what little skills I have and get some exceptional pieces. I don’t plan on making a career of it, just something fun and creative to do but with that said, I still want to be good at it!
